Issue 4

Welcome to the fourth edition of the Industry Roundup! This monthly newsletter will provide you with a snapshot of news and developments directly impacting and shaping the lead gen industry.
Scammers Taking Advantage of Economic Pressures
Over 4 million mortgage scam calls were made over this past February and March, according to data collected by spam and fraud solution provider Hiya. 16% of those calls were answered by consumers with the average call lasting approximately 5 minutes. Mortgage Professional America spoke to Hiya’s director of product management, Jonathan Nelson for more insight into their findings. Spam and fraud calls, which draw more regulatory scrutiny of the lead gen industry, are on the rise. Nelson notes that scammers are adjusting their tactics and targets to capitalize on today’s market conditions.
PX Acquisition to Strengthen Position in Home Services
Lead generation tech platform PX fortified its offerings in the solar market with the acquisition of the assets of solar lead gen firm Colossus, according to an April 4 announcement. "The team has significant experience in the solar industry, which is a space that offers a lot of growth opportunities for our marketplace and significant potential network effects and upside for our customers and partners,” said Frans Van Hulle, CEO and co-founder of PX. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Steve Rafferty Recognized with the Tim Burke Pioneer Award
ActiveProspect CEO and founder Steve Rafferty was presented with the 2023 Tim Burke Pioneer Award on March 14 at LeadsCon in Las Vegas. In his acceptance speech, Rafferty stated, “We should all be working toward giving them [consumers] that control and that’s what consent-based marketing is all about.” LeadsCon 2024 will take place April 8-10 at the Paris Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
The Diminishing Relevance of Business Cards
The traditional, physical business card’s slow, but steady march to obsolescence continues. In-person B2B lead generation and prospecting took a step forward this month with the announcement of a digital offering from Mobiva, which provides customizable and interactive micro-websites that serve as digital business cards. Over seven million trees are cut down annually for the production of business cards.
